Friends of NDSS with the support of NOTL Council have proposed to the DSBN a modern new Education Centre to serve our growing community for the next 50 years and beyond.

The proposed Education Centre would have distinct facilities for elementary and high school students, separated by a community centre complex. Student populations would be segregated by age, both indoors and out.

We believe this is the one remaining option that can preserve Parliament Oak and St. David's public schools while serving Butler / Virgil students in a spacious green new site; continue to allow choice to Eden families; and protect our youth from both endless hours of bussing and the alienation that will come from forced attendance at high schools in different muncipalities.

We recognize this means some Virgil children will no longer be able to walk to school when the weather is good. Parents from both Butler and Virgil schools have indicated they feel this is an unfortunate but necessary compromise they can make to provide their children with more space and learning resources and the opportunity to attend high school in their own community in a few years when they become teens.
